Film Festival: Screenings of Short Films and Video Works – Curated by Jetshri Bhadviya

The opening of the MR/QD Film Festival is on 26th June 2022 at College For Creative Studies (Taubman Campus) at 6pm on 11th Floor Gm Auditorium.

We will kick-start out film screenings with “Beauty President at 6pm.

About Beauty President – Meet America’s First Drag Queen for President: “If a bad actor can be president, why not a good drag queen?” In 1992, Joan Jett Blakk made a historic bid for the White House as one of the first openly queer write-in candidates. Today, Terence Smith, the man behind the persona, reflects back on his place in gay rights history. Executive produced by Emmy®-winning actor-writer-producer Lena Waithe and Rishi Rajani through their Hillman Grad Productions banner, Oscar®-nominated Ben Proudfoot, Abby Lynn Kang Davis and Dawn O’Keeffe.

Mighty Real/Queer Detroit is an art exhibition in June 2022 devoted to 77 years (1945-2022) of Detroit LGBTQ+ art 

The exhibition presents a month-long historical examination of the diversity of the LGBTQ+ community and its longtime allies, featuring established & emerging Detroit artists, as well as artists whose careers were shortened by HIV/AIDS.
