Mighty Real/Queer Detroit presents a revival of the Music Institute's legendary "Back to Basics" night. Bringing together the original DJs, music, culture, and crew at Menjo's complex.
The Music Institute was Detroit's answer to legendary clubs like New York's Paradise Garage and Chicago's Warehouse and Power Plant. In 1988, it was the only place you could hear Detroit Techno as it ought to have been heard: loud, bumpin', and Funky.
This will be a one-of-a-kind experience.

The event is a fundraiser for I'll Be Your Mirror, the first biennial of Queer art, featuring artists from the USA as well as Asia, Latin America, and Europe. The exhibition explores the mirrored relationship between art and self as well as art and community, highlighting the role of art in achieving personal visibility and social connection. More than 170 artists will be featured in 11 Detroit galleries. May 31-June30.
