Artist Statement

Billy Miller is a Detroit native – NYC-based multidisciplinary artist. He studied at C.C.S. Detroit and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His artwork has been exhibited at MoMA PS1, The Center for Book Arts, Printed Matter, Jeffrey Deitch Projects, Andrew Edlin gallery, Feature gallery, Team gallery, Kerry Schuss gallery, Fierman gallery, Exile gallery Berlin, Galerie du Jour Agnes B Paris, and others. He has organized and curated film and video screenings, performances, lectures, and exhibitions at Invisible Exports, 80WSE NYU, HAUS Vienna, NYC Public Library, Fringe Festival London, Artists’ Television Access (S.F.), Printed Matter, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, The Geffen Center at LA MOCA, and others. 
The framed drawing-painting-collage on greeting cards at CCS were made during the recent pandemic – and are on greeting cards in part because of the way this very American practice represents the contradiction of an impersonal corporate product as a facsimile or stand-in for personal connection.

Mighty Real/Queer Detroit is an art exhibition in June 2022 devoted to 77 years (1945-2022) of Detroit LGBTQ+ art 

The exhibition presents a month-long historical examination of the diversity of the LGBTQ+ community and its longtime allies, featuring established & emerging Detroit artists, as well as artists whose careers were shortened by HIV/AIDS.
