Drawing With Parts | 51″ x 26″ x 5″ | Fabric, wire, sublimation print | 2021

Artist Statement

My earliest memory exploring drawing was with the use of Crayons, to express myself within the boundary of the paper, and sometimes on the wall or various objects. The act of drawing has allowed me to create images from observation, memory, and tracing. My early experiences with drawing became a gateway to other processes: collage, photography, screen printing, patchwork, and surface design.
Art is a vehicle for me to interpret relationships; to others, to self, and to the environment we travel. I often use fabric, dye, paint, wood, found objects, and digital technology as tools for non-verbal communication. Themes within my artworks (aka emotional objects) explore identity, relationships, desire, shame, pride, and impermanence. The artifacts of my creative practice are an attempt to decipher the parts, complexities, and contradictions of being.
