Artist Statement

With a strong background in figure drawing, I find it exciting to depict the unposed gestures of people relating to each other and their surroundings. I prefer people engaged in leisure activities. Plein-air paint outs, life drawing sessions and live concerts are my muse for creating. Photographs are the resource to capture people in action, used as supplementary details for studio paintings. World travel has enriched my visual experiences. The people, architecture and cultures of Belize and Sicily were recaptured in the work created when I returned home. With degrees in Sociology from Wayne State University, I worked as a researcher and planner for the City of Detroit Planning Department. While there I sketched in figure drawing workshops. In 1990 I retired and returned to Wayne State earning a Fine Arts degree. I am a participating artist in the Detroit artist community.
