Artist Statement

Levester Williams is a visual artist whose practice shifts through sculptures, installations, performances, moving images and sound to examine the politics and poetics of identity, space/place, and the body. Williams grapples in his work how phenomenological encounters with sites mediate one’s experience of and movement through the world. Anchored in scholarly research and site engagements, his artistic praxis seeks to renegotiate questions of history, identity, and memory as sites of criticality. Through the fracturing and manufacturing of energy, matter, moments, monuments, and memories, he hopes to arrive at the brink of the soulfulness of all things.
